Parks & Recreation Commission


The Parks & Recreation Commission is responsible for advising the City Council on various matters pertaining to parks and recreation. The Commission develops immediate and long-range plans for the recreational needs of the community keeping in mind the wide-range of recreational interests, the limited extent of recreational facilities in the City and the need to acquire additional, affordable recreational facilities in the future.

The Commission annually coordinates the Music-in-the-Park concert series. In addition, the Commission works with local schools , private and non-profit service providers to ensure that existing recreational services and facilities are made available and are coordinated in order to maximize their use.

Qualifications:  Each of the five (5) Commissioners shall be a resident of the City and shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the City Council.  Members of the Parks & Recreation Commission shall not serve on one of the City’s other seven (7) Commissions/Committees simultaneously (with the exception of the Joint Use Committee).  Other than City Council members, persons elected to any office may serve as a City Commissioner except as provided by Government Code section 1099 and/or any other applicable law.

Compensation:  Parks & Recreation Commission Members receive a stipend of $50.00 per meeting, which they must be in attendance to receive.

Meetings

The Parks & Recreation Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 PM in City Hall. Correspondence to the Commission may be sent to City Hall.
