The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department asks residents to be wary of potential "cybercrime."  Cybercrime is one of the fastest growing areas of criminal activity.  More and more criminals are exploiting the speed, convenience, and anonymity that modern technologies offer for committing a diverse range of crimes.  These include attacks against computer data and systems, identity theft, the distribution of child sexual abuse images, internet auction fraud, the penetration of online financial services, as well as the deployment of viruses, Botnets, and various email scams such as phishing.

For residents interested in receiving the Sheriff's Department Cyber Newsletter, please email your name to cyber@lasd.org.  For more information, or to arrange a Cyber Security Awareness presentation for a civic group, PTA meeting, or other organization, please contact Lt. Mark Stevens at (562) 347-2602, or mwsteven@lasd.org.
