Elections

The City of La Cañada Flintridge conducts its General Municipal Elections in March of odd-numbered years (set by Ordinance No. 236 in 1996). The local electorate votes for the City Council members at that time. To qualify as a candidate for City Council, you must be a registered voter in La Cañada Flintridge, a United States citizen, and 18 years of age.

The next General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 for the purpose of filling two (2) seats on the City Council, each with a term of four years. 

The filing period for nomination to a City Council seat opens on Monday, November 14, 2016 and closes on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.  Pursuant to California Election Code Section 10225, the filing period for candidates for the offices of Council Member, City of La Cañada Flintridge, to be voted on at the March 7, 2017, General Municipal Election, may be extended to December 14, 2016. This extension is granted if an incumbent Council Member, eligible to run for re-election, does not file nomination papers during the regular filing period. 

Candidates must file their nomination papers at the City Clerk’s Office at 1327 Foothill Blvd, La Cañada Flintridge, CA, no later than 5:00 p.m. on December 9, 2016. No incumbent of an office up for election, who did not file their nomination papers during the regular filing period, may file for candidacy during this extended filing period.

The last City election took place on March 3, 2015.
